I have confessed this before: I am a terrible cook. But based on the fact that I LOVE food, I consider myself to be a foodie. I love how South Africans can take any foreign dish and South Africanise it! Our guests love to ask where we like to eat so I thought I’d share some of our favourite restaurants in Port Elizabeth. We don’t often get the opportunity to eat out but when we do, we inevitably end up at one of these spots:
Tapas with a South African twist! These Mediterranean morsels are superbly prepared. I have never been disappointed with the quality of the food and the service at this family-run restaurant. Don’t miss the lamb shank spring rolls!
This little gem is situated in the industrial area Baakens Valley in quite a nondescript warehouse. But as soon as you walk through the doors you are transported to Rome! They serve delicious pizzas (amongst other glorious Italian dishes), the ambiance is inviting and their service is excellent.
The new kid on the block opened its doors about a year ago and is still going strong. They serve imaginative, beautifully presented vegetarian dishes for breakfast and lunch. I love their housemade rooibos ice tea and the burrito!
Yum, yum, yum! This tiny little café packs a punch when it comes to flavour and variety. Huge, fresh bagels are served with almost every topping combination imaginable! The bacon bagels are the best though – ask any South African…bacon just makes everything better!
Portuguese-inspired food with a dash of South African thrown in. For a simple but finger-licking-good meal order the ribs, chicken, pao and chips to share with friends!
Get the best cappuccinos and creamy scrambled eggs at this quaint artisanal bakery in Richmond Hill. All their baked goodies are delicious so a number of visits is recommended to try them all.
Easy to find on Main Road Walmer with it’s red and white candy stripe wall. Order the best baked cheesecake in town!
Hope you enjoy these fab foodie spots as much as we do! A
