Are you craving some “me time”? As women, we always look after others; kids, parents, the neighbour’s cat…There just never seems to be time to do something for ourselves. We persevere through our busy schedule but how can we be everything for everyone, all the time? It’s impossible. We all reach a point in our lives when we need to take a step back to take care of ourselves. Even a super-woman like you deserves a break! Where better to escape to than in the heart of the Karoo? Unplug from the demands of life and take the plunge to take care of you. Use this opportunity in the vast Karoo wilderness to deeply reflect, without those everyday distractions. No couples, no kids…just a group of like-minded women who want to refill their cup and have fun! All you need to do is show up, I’ll take care of the rest.

We depart the Friendly City at about 09:00am. Our first stop will be in the charming town of Joubertina for a quick coffee and snack after which we will continue our journey along the famous Route 62 through the Langkloof. The scenery along this route will take your breath away. We will stop to see the waterfall in Meiringspoort, visit an olive farm and taste wine on a family-run estate along the way. Upon arrival in Prince Albert, we head straight to a well-known dairy for a delicious tasting of locally made cheeses. There will be some time to freshen up before we enjoy a delicious dinner and jolly evening out on the town.
After a light breakfast, there will be some time to explore the town on your own. We will meet again at 10:00am to begin a fantastic morning of Karoo-style cooking. Our hosts at African Relish are experts in making the most of locally produced products. Learn to create classic Karoo dishes and enjoy devouring them too! With our hearts and bellies sufficiently full, we jump back into the trusted Kombi and brave the beautiful Swartberg Pass. This is the last of Thomas Baine’s impressive works. Keep your eyes open for gorgeous little klipspringers amongst the rocky outcrops. We will check in to a charming guestfarm and enjoy a cup of tea by the cosy fireplace. This evening, we will head to one of the lovely restaurants in Oudtshoorn for dinner. (B|L)
Wake up early this morning to experience something very special; an encounter with wild meerkats. We will sit and wait for these comical creatures to appear from their burrows (coffee in hand) to soak up some sun on their bellies. We will spend some time observing their interactions and hunting antics. After taking numerous photographs, we head back to the farmhouse to enjoy a well-deserved breakfast. The rest of the morning can be spent relaxing until you are whisked off to a surprise lunch at an olive estate. In the late afternoon, we embark a 4×4 open game vehicle and venture into the Karoo bushveld for a very unique safari experience. Admire the golden setting sun among herds of giraffe and kudu and have sundowners while listening to the hippos chatting away. This evening, we will head to town in search of a light dinner. (B|L)
No need to wake up before sunrise today! After a leisurely breakfast, we will pack up and head back to Port Elizabeth along the beautiful Langkloof. After a quick stop in Joubertina again to refuel both bellies and the vehicle, we will arrive back in the Friendly City in the mid-afternoon, refreshed and ready to take on the next week! (B)
