The Garden Route

Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour

A first of its kind in Africa and a gem of the Garden Route. Enjoy the unsurpassed beauty of the indigenous Tsitsikamma forest high up on ten treetop platforms. Gently glide along in a harness on steel cables 30 meters above the forest floor. Birdlife is abundant (including Knysna Loeries and the elusive Narina Trogon) and your guides will explain the ecology of the lush primeval forest. Safety is paramount and so the system has been built to the highest civil engineering standards. Guides are fully-trained professionals and jam-packed with knowledge about the forest.

Woodcutters Journey

Journey with us down the old Stormsriver Pass and experience the indigenous forest from the comfort of a specially-designed vehicle. Follow the elephant trail, passing yellowwoods and stinkwoods, while hearing about the history of the area and the indigenous flora and fauna. Enjoy a delicious lunch or tea at a beautiful picnic site next to the Stormsriver, where wagons outspanned more than a century ago.

Waterfall Zipline

Here in the indigenous Tsitsikamma forest, we offer spectacular Zipline adventure slides across the Kruis River. The eight slides, of which the longest is 211m, zigzag along cables across the river gorge, as high as 50m above the water in some places. Each section presents its own surprises, adventure, wonders and beautiful views over the Tsitsikamma forest. Users can control the speed of their descent, allowing them to stop mid-cable to take in some of the awesome views over the waterfalls. Your guides provide interesting commentary about the area as patrons traverse the gorge and waterfalls.

Canyoning and Abseiling Tsitsikamma Explorer

For an action-packed Garden Route adventure, try canyoning and abseiling trails through the Tsitsikamma Forest. Feel the rush sliding down natural waterways and abseiling down a cliff next to a waterfall. You will be rewarded with stunning views. Whether you are a rookie or a pro, this expedition will be a memorable one!

Segway Forest Tours

The perfect family adventure! Experience the sheer beauty of the indigenous Tsitsikamma forest on an easy to ride, Segway. After a 15-20 minute training session, we take a journey through the quaint Stormsriver Village and follow one of a selection of routes among the trees.  If you are up for more, join us on the 2 hour tour. We take a journey through the village and through the forest to the famous and majestic 1000 year old Tsitsikamma BIG Tree and back to the village.

Bloukrans Bungy Jump

The ultimate thrill along the Garden Route! The view from Africa’s highest bridge captures all the majesty and tranquility of the Bloukrans River valley. But there is nothing tranquil about throwing yourself more than 200m down towards the river below. This jump is recognised as the highest bungee from a bridge in the world. Consequently, Bloukrans Bungy uses pendulum bungy technology to ensure the smoothest, most comfortable bungee jump possible. Further, our jumpers are secured in a full-body harness combined with an ankle connection.

Garden Route Tubing Adventure

Explore the remarkable Tsitsikamma National Park by tubing down the Storms River. The experience is somewhat similar to caving but can cater for the unexperienced adventure seeker. The trip entails pool paddling, bouldering, tube jumps, swimming, and optional rock jumps up to 8m in height (short pour over and shoot rapids are water level dependent). The fern-clad gorge walls offer stunning scenery that can only be seen by traversing the full day tubing route. As a result, this is a unique experience reserved for the adventurous.

Robberg Hiking Trails

Robberg Hiking Trail is probably one of the most scenic trails along the Garden Route. The circular trail along the Robberg Peninsula has two shorter variations available ranging from easy to moderate. You will probably hear the Cape fur seals barking before you spot them. Look out for dassies (rock hyrax) as they scurry for cover under rocks. Other animal life includes duiker and bushbuck. Furthermore, Cape clawless otters and mongooses are occasionally seen. Robberg is the ideal vantage point for sighting whales and dolphins. Even orcas (killer whales) have been spotted in the Bay. There are also numerous bird species like Cape robins, Cape white-eyes, red-winged starlings and orange-breasted sunbirds to name but a few. Stop for a moment and admire the majestic Tsitsikamma Mountains. The Point is the ideal place to stop for a picnic and watch the large numbers of swift terns and kelp gulls.

Whale & Dolphin Cruise

Plettenberg Bay is home to a myriad of ocean mammals. Graceful bottlenose dolphins diving in and out of the waves, visits to the large cape fur seal colony, pelagic and coastal birds sightings and the experience of being in the middle of group of feeding common dolphins could all be a part of your summer trip. You may have the opportunity to see the rare humpback dolphins or an elusive Bryde’s whale found in only certain areas of the South African coastline. During winter you could be graced with sightings of the Southern right whale or humpback whales travelling along the coastline. You may experience the joy of seeing them breach or even view a mother and calf as they enjoy the safety our Bay offers. We will also introduce you to our vast seal colony and the many pelagic and coastal birds.
