The Magical Karoo

Karoo Meerkat Safari

Spend a morning, coffee mug in hand, watching the antics of a meerkat clan in the beautiful Karoo. These comical creatures, from the mongoose family, are known for their upright stance and sociable behaviour. They escape their burrows at dawn and catch some sun on their bellies before scurrying off into the veld in search of breakfast. Meerkats are not often spotted in the wild and so this meerkat safari makes for a very special and unique encounter.

Cango Wildlife Ranch

Cango Wildlife Ranch is an education and breeding facility for endangered wildlife, particularly cheetah. From humble beginnings, the ranch has grown to currently house a variety of endangered species including various birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. These include servals, African spoonbills, porcupines, flying foxes and numerous tortoises and terrapins. The resident animals come from all over the world. The little patients are usually nursed back to health and released back into the wild depending on the nature of their injuries. However, many animals cannot be released and call Cango Wildlife Ranch their home. They provide the opportunity to educate the general public. Visit the Snakepark, Lemur Falls and Cheetahland for fun-filled, interactive experiences for the whole family. If you are brave enough, why not opt for a croc-cage dive?

Karoo Elephant Experiences

Spend some time getting up close and personal with 3 gentle giants at Buffelsdrift Game Reserve. These elephants were orphaned in Kruger National Park as a result of poaching. They have great personalities and offer the opportunity to educate people about their role in the ecosystem. Feed them their favourite snacks or brush their coarse skin for a spa day with a difference! You can even take a stroll with them through the bushveld after treating them to a back-scratch.
