The Garden Route is the perfect holiday for a family adventure, roadtrip style! As you arrive in the Friendly City of Port Elizabeth, you will be showered in genuine South African hospitality. This city is famed for its stunning Blue Flag beaches, friendly locals and is also known as the Bottlenose dolphin capital of the world! Spend a few days on safari in a malaria-free area before heading along the scenic Garden Route to visit quaint coastal towns, marvel at ancient forests and explore the area by kayaking wild rivers, ziplining through the treetops and hiking along the coast. This trip ends off in Cape Town; immerse yourself in the food, culture and stunning natural beauty this great city has to offer.

9 Day Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Port Elizabeth

Today you’ll have an early start. Head to the harbour where you will meet up with our team for a 2-hour ocean safari. Algoa Bay is the bottlenose capital of the world! You’ll also get the opportunity to spot a number of whale species, penguins as well as other marine birds.  Depart Port Elizabeth by noon to arrive at the private game reserve in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive.

Day 2: Safari

A typical day on safari involves an early wake-up call followed by a quick cup of coffee before heading out on the open vehicle in search of wildlife. You’ll return to the lodge for breakfast and some free time. After lunch, you will board the game viewer again for a sunset safari experience. Dinner will be served later in the evening in the boma under the stars.

Day 3: Port Elizabeth – Tsitsikamma

After your last morning game drive and bush breakfast, you’ll pack up and head to the beautiful Tsitsikamma. Here you’ll have the opportunity to zipline through the trees and over waterfalls and you can do the highest bungy in the world!

Day 4: Tsitsikamma – Knysna

Why not spend the morning exploring the ancient Tsitsikamma on foot? There are numerous hiking trails to consider, including the famous Stormsriver Mouth suspension bridge hike. After a well-deserved lunch, you’ll travel on to Knysna.

Day 5: Knysna

A free day to explore this charming coastal town. End off the day with a sunset cruise on the lagoon.

Day 6: Knysna – Oudtshoorn

Today you’ll travel inland to the Karoo town of Oudtshoorn. There are a number of fun stops to make along the way. Spend the afternoon exploring the world renowned Cango Caves.

Day 7: Oudtshoorn – Hermanus

This morning you’ll experience something truly unique – get up early and watch a meerkat family during their morning routine. In the afternoon, you’ll travel to Hermanus via the famous Route 62. Stop at an iconic diner for the best burgers and milkshakes in South Africa.

Day 8: Hermanus – Stellenbosch

Spend another morning with South Africa’s amazing wildlife and enjoy a whale watching cruise (in season). In the afternoon you’ll be tasting distinguished wines in the Stellenbosch region.

Day 9: Stellenbosch –  Cape Town

You’ll be dropped off at the airport or at your hotel this morning.
